Thatcham Insurance Approved Trackers ...
Why do Insurers request Thatcham Certified Trackers ?
Insurance companies are at risk from theft and can mitigate the risk by requesting owners to fit high quality and independantly tested after theft recovery tracking systems. The world's leading body on validating Stolen Vehicle Recovery (SVR) tracking systems is Thatcham Research.
Thatcham Research is the motor insurers’ automotive research centre. Established by the motor insurance industry in 1969, with a focus to contain or reduce the cost of motor insurance claims whilst maintaining safety standards. Thatcham is the UK’s only ‘not for profit’ insurer funded research centre they are recognised globally as the leaders on testing motor vehicles for security and safety with the highest vehicle security standards.
Manufactures and supplies of Thatcham approved trackers must invest time, money and resource to ensure their products can achieve the Thatcham Standards. Thatcham Trackers are independently tested and verified to set criteria CAT 5, CAT 6 or CAT 7. Automatrics Trackers are all tested to CAT 7, as this is the only category that Thatcham engineers test to recover assets without any GPS signals, such as when a GPS jammer is in use or if stolen vehicles are simply hidden from GPS satellites. All CAT 7 units must have RF Radio Frequency technology which can detect signals inside buildings, lock-ups or steel shipping containers. CAT 7 devices unlike GPS only devices use secret Radio Frequency signals, either VHF Very High Frequency (less accurate) or UHF Ultra High Frequency (accurate to less than one metre)
CAT 7 Thatcham criteria does not specify to use VHF or UHF and a GPS receiver is not required, however all Automatrics units use the more accurate UHF Radio Frequency and also have additional high powered GPS receivers. You can review the Thatcham CAT criteria and all the additional Automatrics MTrack features on our Thatcham Compare chart. The Automatrics multilayer location technology approach gives all of our products and services a distinct advantage that keep the criminals guessing !
